Best way to request product samples before committing to bulk orders?

Question#samples#negotiation#buying-tips
What's the standard process for getting samples from Korean brands? I've had mixed experiences: - Some brands send free samples, others charge - Shipping samples internationally can cost more than the samples themselves - Sample quality doesn't always match bulk production How do you handle the sampling process? Do you ask for specific batch samples or just marketing samples? Any tips for negotiating sample terms?

In France, most Korean brands we've worked with charge for samples but deduct the cost from your first order if you proceed. Typical sample cost: $30-$80 for a set of 5-10 products, plus $20-$40 DHL shipping. My advice: always request samples from the actual production batch if possible, not just marketing samples. We once got beautiful marketing samples but the bulk order had slightly different packaging and texture. Now we specifically ask for "production-line samples."
